I begin my 32nd year in education this year . . . time has flown by! After teching every grade level from grades 7-12 in the areas of English, Social Studies, Journalism, and Academic Decathlon, I currently teach Senior AP English and Language Arts 5-6 (junior level). In addition, I am the LA 5-6 Level Leader and the Academic Decathlon Assistant Coach. I began teaching Advanced Placement courses in 1996 and have since read/scored both the AP Language & Composition Exam and the AP Literature & Composition Exam at national readings.

Beginning my partnership with Deer Valley in 1990, I have had the oportunity to work with some outstanding students, parents, teachers, and administrators at Deer Valley Middle School, Deer Valley High School, Mt. Ridge High School, and O'Connor High School. I completed my undergraduate degree in Journalism from Harding University (Searcy, AR) in 1976 and my Master's degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from ASU in 1995.

Our family moved to AZ from Texas in 1989. We had previously lived in Pennsylvania for 9 years. My husband and I have two sons and one daughter-in-law. Our youngest son lives in Phoenix and is a graphic designer. Our oldest son and his wife live in Dallas, where they work in visual editing and graphic design, respectively.

I have a passion for literature, art, history, music, drama and travel, which I share with my best friend--my husband. We have traveled to South America, Turkey, Europe, and the Middle East. The Middle East trip was a 25th wedding anniversary present; we celebrated our 34th anniversary this year with a trip to Paris...what a place to celebrate!

While coaching the Mt. Ridge Academic Decathlon team for nine years, I developed a burning desire to SEE all the great art that we had studied. This flowered into leading student tours to Europe and Australia/New Zealand for the past decade...what a delight! It has been a magical highlight of each school year to see young people connect with their global community.
