Society of Female Scholars

I. Name of Club -- Society of Female Scholars

II. Purpose of Club -- The purpose of SOFS is to expand the educational and career horizons of academically superior junior and senior female students. Through female faculty mentorship, large and small group sessions, cultural events and service projects, students and mentors work together to stimulate individual and group interests as they pursue various issues pertinent to women of the 21st century.

III. Membership Qualifications -- Potential members are qualified junior and senior girls who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Qualified girls are invited to join the organization through membership letters. All members must complete an application form and turn in operation fees ($25.00) by the due date. Members must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5.

Members must attend at least three after-school meetings each semester. In addition, members must attend the fall induction ceremony and the spring function.

IV. Officers and Duties President -- Work with the advisor to plan meetings and special events; preside over meetings

Vice-president -- Assist the advisor and the president with planning meetings and special events; act as president if the president cannot fulfill her duties.

Secretary -- Keep accurate minutes of all meetings; give the minutes to the advisor to xerox; assist the president and vice-president with various duties.

Treasurer -- Keep a detailed report of all monies for the club; have treasurer¡Ùs report for each meeting; assist the advisor with deposits and withdrawals of club account; assist the president and vice-president with various duties.

Historians (2) -- Keep a pictorial and video record of all activities during the current school year; assist the president and vice-president with various duties.

Officers may be juniors or seniors.

V. Operation Fees --

Operation Fees for the club will be $25.00 per member per school year.

VI. Elections--

Elections will be held during the first meeting of the organization for the current school year. Potential officers will give a one-minute speech; members will vote by secret ballot after all speeches have been delivered; the advisor will notify all girls who ran for office of voting outcome; school announcement will follow within the next two school days.

VII. Replacement of Officers --

In the event that officers must be replaced, any member who wishes to run for the office must give a one-minute speech to members; members will vote by secret ballot; advisor will notify members of the new officer(s).

VIII. Meetings --

Meetings will be held once a month; the members and the advisor will decide the meeting times and locations.

IX. Committee Chairmen: It is at the discretion of the advisor and officers to select capable committee chairmen.
